DrupalCon Copenhagen was likely the last big conference before Drupal 7 is released. This release is hotly anticipated by the Drupal Community, with ports of existing modules and new Drupal 7 modules popping up continuously on drupal.org. We sent a small but very active contingent and we are eager to share our thoughts.

ACTA is a secretly negotiated international trade agreement. Its stated objectives are to enforce copyright and tackle counterfeited goods (hence its acronym: Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement).

For our next 5@7 on Friday, June 25th, we have invited Anthony Hémond of FACIL pour l'appropriation collective de l'informatique libre to discuss ACTA and its potential implications on access to knowledge, privacy, Net Neutrality, and fundamental rights.

As our longtime clients and workers know, it's been six years since Koumbit was founded in March 2004. But being geeks who start counting at zero, we've decided to celebrate Koumbit's fifth anniversary this year, even though conventional arithmetic would describe it otherwise.

Agence Science-Presse, a French-language newswire service specializing in scientific news, turned to Koumbit to redesign and upgrade their old Drupal 4.7 site to a more modern layout built on top of Drupal 6. Read on for a description of how we customized Apache Solr and combined it with Views 3 for a powerful user experience.

The Drupal users and developers conference (DrupalCon) kicked off Monday in San Francisco and continues until Wednesday. Koumbit is well represented by no fewer than six of its workers who have travelled from Montreal to attend.

It might have been the recent humanitarian crises in the headlines, the recent rapid growth of Koumbit, or a curiosity about the potential of free software in the non-profit sector, but we almost didn't have enough room for the presentation of Oxfam Quebec's Myriam Antaki, the speaker at our most recent 5 à 7, last Friday, March 26th, 2010.

Koumbit wishes to express its support of FACIL, pour l'appropriation collective de l'informatique libre, which is currently facing a situation that could jeopardize its existence. Following a rejected judicial demand, FACIL is now subject to a penalty of $106,000.00, which could cause its bankruptcy.
