... ce qu'on peut faire avec cette technologie, tu ne la possèdes pas.

Arrrrgggg!!!!

Ce n'est pas parce que j'ai pas de tracteur, tablette (iPad ou autres), téléphone intelligent (iPhone et autres), avion, XBox 360, que je ne suis pas capable de savoir si j'ai besoin de ces technologies ni d'avoir une très bonne idée de ce qu'il est possible de faire avec ces techno. Bon.

À moi de moi: avant de dire à quelqu'un qu'il ne peut pas «savoir» parce qu'il ne «possède» pas, prendre un grand respire.

Suite à mon billet «Le marteau de mon papa» j'ai eu un commentaire sur le fait que mon identité numérique n'était pas très marteau, mais plutôt TIC. Je dois l'avouer, cette personne a sûrement raison (et ma douce aussi quand elle dit que je ne suis pas très talentueux avec mon marteau préféré).

Donc parlons TIC.

Dans mon coffre à outils j'ai un marteau qui me tient à coeur, celui que mon papa (menuisier) m'a donné il y bien des années. Ce marteau va très bien. J'aime ce marteau. Je l'ai sur moi à toutes les occasions où je bricole, bien que je ne sois pas très hot en bricolage. Ma douce ne perd pas une occasion de rire de moi sur mes talents limités ;o)

Dans un projet de bricolage, j'ai eu à couper un bon vieux 2x4. Mon marteau à la main, je regarde les buts de ce que je veux atteindre, couper le 2x4, et je me suis dit:

What’s more, it is a nicely written article which makes a pretty good job explaining what we’re up to, and how the day-to-day life is like in our office. Which by the way really is pretty awesome.

Just came out of the first Montreal Ouvert open meeting.

I was pleasantly surprised to see so many interested people showing up, and from so many different backgrounds. Developers, entrepreneurs, municipal employees, students, journalists, and more that I forgot about of course.

In the end they were all just citizens, enthusiastic about the possibilities of open data, ready to put in some grey matter and some work to help make it a reality. For some the work began some time ago, as much as a few years back.

This summer, I will have my largest event line-up around a single theme. None of which will be technical! It will begin on June 25th with RecentChangesCamp (RoCoCo, to give it a French flavor) in Montreal. I first attended that event the last time it was in Montreal and again last year in Portland. It’s the gathering of wiki enthusiasts, developers, and pretty much anyone who cares to attend (it’s free).

A few months back, Microsoft made a presentation on OData at PHP Quebec. While I found the format interesting at first, with the way you can easily navigate and explore the dataset, I must admit I was a bit skeptical. After all, public organizations handing out their data to Microsoft does sound like a terrible idea. While a lot of that data will be hosted on Microsoft technologies, the format remains open, and it appears to be picking up.

So what happened in all that time since my last substantial blog post?

No, I wasn’t busy counting red cars passing on the street, or marveling at the cat’s anatomy as my kids do.

After mulling over the possibility for a while, I finally decided to quit my job and go solo, and that turned out to be one of the greatest, most satisfying choices I have ever made!

But it wasn’t an easy one.

I’m always on the lookout for a better wiki platform.

Wikis have already had a huge impact, from pet projects to enterprise solutions to Wikipedia, the popular free online encyclopedia.

Wagn could open up even bigger ideas about what online communities can do.
